The wines you want, when you want them

Bodegas Joffre E Hijas, Lujan de Cayo, Mendoza

Lujan de Cayo's position on the edge of the imposing Andes Mountain chain is within a spectacular pollution free ecosystem.  The area incorporates a multitude of micro climates, creating a perfect natural habitat for the development and growth of many grape varieties.

The soil has been created through a millennium of mountain rock erosion with a dry, almost desert like climate.  These rocky sandy soils have little organic matter and provides the perfect conditions for vine growing as it stresses the vines.  Such vines will produce smaller grapes which, in turn, develop more concentrated flavours.

The Mendoza River makes viticulture possible here; the Andean meltwater that it brings to the valley provides an abundant source of water for irrigation.

The estate was originally built and planted in 1940.  The current Bodega was founded in 1998 by Raul Joffre.

The driving force behind his creation were his life's two biggest passions;

WINE, which he learnt as a young man being the grandson of a grape grower and the legacy of a 19th century wine producing family and;

HIS DAUGHTERS, looking to create a different way of life for the future of his "four stars" as he calls them.  This sentiment is reflected on some of the wine labels.

Raul, his family and team produce their wines with the over-riding concept of "high quality" always in mind,  All of the wines are produced with methods and processes consistent with high quality production in the vineyards and the winery.

There continual search is to create different and defined styles expressing a unique identity and personality for each wine.

We think the whole range of wines are somewhat special and we hope you enjoy them as much too.
