2012 Abando Blanco, Late Harvest, Barrel fermented, Bodegas Santalba
Appellation: Rioja
Vintage: 2012
The wine is a brilliant gold-tinted colour with complex aromas of tropical and citrus fruits, botanical notes and mint. It has delicate vanilla and toast aromas from fermentation in American oak. In the mouth it is rich with excellent acidity and a persistent finish.
Bodegas Santalba: Santiago Ijalba and his son Roberto own and run this Bodega in the village of Gimileo 4 kilometers from Haro, the wine capital of the Rioja region. They follow the usual Rioja practice of using their own grapes supplemented by those of several contract growers. Tempranillo is the dominant grape but they also use small quantities of other Rioja red grapes, Garnacha, Graziano, and Mazuelo. This is a modern bodega but making both traditional and modern wines at the very pinnacle of Rioja wines.
